From the Christmas market to the farmers' wedding

Christmas in Castelrotto

The Christmas Market in Castelrotto, which is located at very high altitude, opens up on the weekends during Advent. It is located on the historical center of the village. At the small and cozy Christmas Market tradesmen and farmers open up their drawers to show locals and tourists their old tools and customs. The farmers' wives of Castelrotto offer delicious specialties specific to the kitchen of Castelrotto such as cookies, Christmas puddings, Christmas cakes, and hot Glueh Wine (mulled wine). You will definitely find a suitable Christmas gift sold by the local traders! Let yourself be put in Christmas spirit while listening to the thoughtful songs of the Castelrottoer Spatzen.

Wedding-Kitchen in Castelrotto

The Farmers' Wedding takes place during the second week of January.
Traditionally in former times, weddings took place during the winters because people had more time then. To this event, family and guests were invited. The bride and the groom are transported by a horse-sleigh to the church in the village's center. After the wedding ceremony, typical South Tyrolean specialties and Tyrolean Farmers' specialties are served.

Swing on Snow

The Alpe di Siusi is being decorated with delicate tones and colors at the end of January: "Swing on Snow" - Music for the heart! Musicians from all over the Alps are accompanying winter athletes and winter hikers with harmonic tones throughout nature. Shining sun and fine music creates an idyllic atmosphere on the Alpe di Siusi, Europe's biggest Alpine pasture. "Swing and Snow" offers real traditional folk music originated in the Alps!

Alpe di Siusi Moonlight Classic

The Alpe di Siusi Moonlight Classic is a cross country skiing marathon that is quite unusual: at 8pm, several hundred cross country skiers are starting out at Kompatsch into the night; using their head lamps, the skiers allow their skinny skis to glide through the light snow until they reach the starting point again after 42 kilometers. The "Alpe di Siusi Moonlight Classic" is also for the spectators of the race an impressive event- they cheer on the participants along a path that is lit with torches.

KASTELRUTHER CHRISTMAS

On the weekends in Advent, one of the highest Christmas markets in South Tyrol opens in the historic square of Kastelruth. On the small but fine Christmas market craftsmen and farmers open the secret drawers and show old tools. Kastelruther farmers offer tasty delicacies from the Kastelruther kitchen with biscuits, Christmas "Stollen", "Zelten" and "Glühwein" (hot wine). Between the local merchants you will surely find the right Christmas gift and the Kastelruther sparrows will sing for you Christmas songs.

 

KASTELRUTHER HOAZETKUCHL

The farmers' wedding ceremony takes place every year in the second week of January. Traditionally famers used to marry in January because they had a lot of free time during that period. Relatives and guests were invited to this event. With the wedding sleigh the future couple was brought to the church in the main square of Kastelruth. After the ceremony typical South Tyrolean specialties and a peasant dishes are served.

SWING ON SNOW

At the end of January, the Alpe di Siusi is immersed in soft tones: "Swing on Snow" - music for the heart! In bright sunshine, which illuminates the white expanse of the largest alpine plateau in Europe, musicians from all over the Alps will accompany the winter sportsmen and hikers in Kastelruth with harmonious sounds through the nature. "Swing on snow" offers real folk music from the Alps, from authentic to experimental, with emphasis on real.

SEISER ALM MOONLIGHT CLASSIC

A cross-country marathon, a quite unusual one: at 8 pm, several hundreds of cross-country skiers start their way into the night in Kompatsch on the Alpe di Siusi, letting their narrow skis glide through the white winter landscape in the glow of their forehead lamps, until they reach the starting point again. The "Alpe di Siusi Moonlight Classic" is also an impressive holiday experience for the spectators when they cheer the participants during their highest performance along the torch lit route.
