The vacation area surrounding the Alpe di Siusi, the largest Alpine pasture of Europe, offers all kinds of special events.
A for South Tyrol unique and unusual building complex, the Calvary Facility, is located in Castelrotto on the “Kofel Hill”. The Roman Castrum on the “Kofel Hill” offers a wonderful view of Castelrotto and a comfortable short hike. “Castello rotto” (i.e., destroyed castle) was used to describe the burg that was built for the Lords of Castelrotto. Only a few remains of the burg are visible today. For example, you can still find the “Bergfried”, which today is place of the hill’s chapel- accessible on the Way of the Cross. The burg was destroyed in 1262 by Bishop Bruno. The “Peace Path” that is usually decorated by students is located on the Northern part of the “Kofel Hill”. In addition, the first tournament of the “Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride” takes place on the “Kofel Hill”.

It is a well-kept and legendary castle at the entrance to the Val Gardena Valley. Guided tours are available. It is also the starting point of the famous “Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride”.

Presule Castle is the original castle of the Lords of Fiè and at the same time it is the end station of the “Oswald von Wolkenstein Ride”.

The Church Tower of Castelrotto is a free standing building and a famous symbol. It has the most beautiful chiming of bells.

The school museum in Castelrotto is a combination of nostalgia, tradition, and schools’ history.

Even in former times, people appreciated organic herb gardens. Nowadays, there is a tendency to look for the old traditional receipts that are based on organic herbs and that provide health, beauty, and vitality. At the Farm “Pflegerhof” you can get to know everything about herbs and seasoning.

The farmers’ museum in the little village of St. Oswald is located within the Sciliar area and communicates to its visitors the hard life that South Tyrolean farmers are/were faced with.

The legends and myths about the Sciliar Witches: from the Witch Benches at the “Bullaccia” mountain and the Witch Chairs at the “Marinzen” Alm to the Witch Stone at the Lake of Fiè.
Fiè only has a few huts to offer, but the three that it has to offer are very special. You can easily reach the “Tuff-Alm Hut” and the “Hofer-Alm Hut” from the Lake of Fiè hiking up a very comfortable path. The “Tschaffon-Hut” is best reached if you start in Ums. All three of the huts have in common that they provide a breathtaking view and only the best specialties of South Tyrol.
If you hike from Siusi to the little village of St. Vigil, you can often hear the rhythmic sound of old mills. During the tour of the mills you not only have the opportunity to learn about the old mill equipment, but you can also learn about everything that has to do with milling flower and past times from the knowledgeable “Marlenger-Max”.
